About SFS
Who are we?
We are a group of volunteers who meet on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at the Common Ground Church Lake Worth where provide hot meals, clothing and other services. We assist approximately 200 homeless friends. We work in collaboration with our sister organizations at Burrito Project, Dare to Care (the shower people), Restoration Bridge International, the City of Lake Worth Beach and a number of local churches to serve the homeless and less fortunate members of our community.
What do we serve?
We supply the homeless with clothing consisting of shirts, shorts, pants, underwear, socks, sneakers, work boots, jackets, and hats. We also supply them with toiletry kits consisting of deodorant, shaving cream, razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, a comb and haircuts. We also provide them with other necessities such as backpacks, books, bicycles, etc. We will also help them with transportation to and from doctor appointments and help get them in halfway houses, detox facilities, and other treatment centers.
How are we funded?
We receive monetary assistance from generous donations from our volunteers and other individuals.
What are our goals?
Our short term goal is to continue to provide food, clothing and treatment assistant to our homeless and less fortunate neighbors. Our long-term goals include building a homeless center to provide broader assistance on a daily basis including but not limited to: bus passes, bicycles, assistance with government programs, recovery groups, job training, daily showers, laundry, medical assistance, and in as many cases as possible, full recovery from alcohol and/or drug addiction and a path to a healthy and blessed life. We are hoping to purchase, lease, or build our own facility in the not-so-distant future.
